also, durham was ranked #1 most tolerant city in america! http://www.thedailybeast.com/galleries/2012/01/16/the-u-s-s-most-tolerant-cities-photos.html
(but it’s not enough. it’s never enough. there are still huge inequalities in this country.)
portlandia/portland article
”For them, Mississippi Avenue has never been anything other than the site of the “hottest new restaurants and the hippest shops”; its pre-gentrification history as a hub of black business and social life has been lost to time.”
this reminds me too much of Durham. we’re not at portland-hipster status, but quite possibly headed there in 20 years.
halloween costume number three: little dead riding hood (or annie edison from community’s season 2 halloween episode).
liquid latex + toilet paper + cereal + eyeshadow + fake blood = inexpensive zombie makeup.
i wore this costume last night. i went dancing with glossy at jeff and king’s monster’s ball at motorco, and it ruled. really makes you appreciate a good DJ. and there was only one racist costume-a really bad native american appropriation. bitch was wearing uggs.
self-portrait, geer street garden.
backstory: proving that i’m not invisible.
harry and the potters, 07.18.11.
here’s a secret: i’m a dork. harry potter & the deathly hallows 2 has been out for a week and i’ve already seen it twice. naturally i jumped at the opportunity to see harry and the potters play at the casbah on monday.
from their website: Imagine if Harry Potter quit the quidditch team and started a punk rock band. Take that one step further and imagine that he stole a time-turner and decided to start that band with himself from a different point in time. Imagine that band could exist without compromising themselves. Imagine that they are able to operate completely independently, without managers, booking agents, recording budgets, publicists, record labels, or anything aside from a sense of enthusiasm and a desire to have fun.
uh, yes please!
accio photos! [told you i was a dork.]
erin is a good friend and occasional subject for impromptu shoots. here she is destroying a burrito and rocking some HP glasses.
in addition to the two harry potters on stage, i counted at least four in the audience.
intense.

backstory: these guys are hilarious. the show is super gimmicky, but they do a lot of fundraising for libraries and they put on a great performance. i wish i dressed up…i felt like such a muggle.
holy ghost tent revival, 07.06.11
holy ghost tent revival played in durham last week as part of duke’s music in the gardens series. rain forced the band to play at motorco instead of the gardens, but it didn’t scare away any of the fans. this was the best show i’ve seen all year! i got goosebumps from HGTR’s harmonies and their intense performance.

backstory: I LOVE THIS BAND.
summer basil beer, fullsteam brewery.
it’s a place that definitely gets the durham community. looking forward to stopping by there this weekend for a pint or two!
hops growing outside the building. i adore this place.
